Seravezza
|
According to an inscription written in semi-gothic characters on the wall of the bell tower in 1422, the Duomo of Seravezza was built on the foundations of an already existing church. Constructed in 1569, it has been reworked numerous times in centuries since. The interior preserves many altars in the transept and along the aisles; the main altar, dating back to 1570, and more recently renewed by Jacopo Benti; the 16th century font, possibly the work of Stagio Stagi; the 17th century pulpit inlaid with marble; the 19th century chapel belonging to the Henraux family; the 18th century baroque chapel dedicated to the Madonna del Soccorso; the painting of the Passignano Pentecost; and the Golden Cross of Pollaiolo, dating back to the 15th century and made of gold plated silver.
