The Church and Chapel of San Martino at Azzano
|
The villages of Seravezza are spaced out over the mountains, the valley floor and the plains of the region, and preserve a certain religious patrimony. In the highest part of the region are Azzano, with its extremely ancient San Martino church, located between marble caves; Basati, with the its 16th century church of Sant’Asano; Cerreta Sant’Antonio, which takes it’s name from its 17th century church, whose interior boasts two tapestries depicting the Virgin Mary with Child and Saints, and the Madonna de Pazzi, hung over the altar of the chapel of the same name; Cerreta San Nicola, with the 14th century church of San Nicola of Tolentino; and Valventosa with its 17th century church dedicated to Saint Jacopo.
The main villages located on the valley floor are Riomagno, with it’s 1608 San Giovanni Battista oratorio located at one end of the main square and Corvaia, with the Santa Maria Addolorata church, which was built after the Second World War and the remains of the medieval fort of Corvaia.
The villages dotted across the plains are Ripa, with the Chruch of Sant’Antonio Abate, which was rebuilt between 1959 and 1952, and Querceta, with the church of Santa Maria Lauretana, which was also rebuilt after the Second World War.
